Why is Embrun called Embrun?
Short answer
The Société historique d'Embrun dates the name to 1857, when missionary François-Xavier Michel suggested Embrun in reference to the community in the French Alps. Its history places the arrival of French-speaking settlers along the Castor River in the mid-1840s.
